NHS.uk – National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP)

The National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) measures the height and weight of children in Reception and Year 6 in schools across England. The information collected allows services to plan how to support families to lead healthy lives.

What happens in Torbay?

A specially trained member of the Healthy Child Programme will attend your child’s school to carry out the measurements.

  • The measurements are completed sensitively and in private. Your child is not told the results.
  • The results are kept confidential and are not shared with any teachers or other children.
  • You will be sent a letter if your child’s body mass index (BMI) centile, is not in the healthy range. This letter includes next steps with links to helpful information.
  • You are given the opportunity to opt your child out of the NCMP. Information about how to opt out are given in a letter or email from your child’s school.
